Celtic are in a spot of bother at the moment.

Their next two games have been postponed because of COVID-19, and Boli Bolingoli has been a very foolish individual.

The defender visited Spain and then failed to follow quarantine protocols. Not only that, but he played in a match for the Hoops days after returning.

This wasn't just a breach of regulations, it was an act that could endanger people's lives.

Neil Lennon has branded the player selfish and who can blame him? This was a moment of madness from the left-back that could all but end his career in Glasgow.

Fortunately, it's come in the transfer window, a time where Lennon and Nick Hammond could easily replace him if they wanted to.

The Bhoys have acquired Vasilis Barkas and Moi Elyounoussi in the market already but there is still plenty of work to do, particularly from a defensive point of view.

Boli Bolignoli

Jozo Simunovic departed the club at the beginning of the summer and the Glaswegians are yet to find his replacement.

Could his successor be lying in America? A month ago it was revealed that Celtic were interested in signing Philadelphia Union centre-back Mark McKenzie.

However, it's now been claimed that initial talks had even been had over a potential switch from MLS to the SPFL.

Speaking to The Daily Record, Philadelphia Union chief Ernst Tanner has spoken about the club's interested in their 21-year-old rising star.

He commented: "We have had interest. There was a talk with Celtic, but I told them: We were not willing to talk before the [MLS in Back] tournament or during the tournament, but maybe then later on.

“Will they come back? That is not in my obligation. That is up to Celtic. There is obviously a little bit of an interest, but there are so many players in the market at the moment."

Mark McKenzie

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

It's unknown whether Celtic will return for McKenzie, but if they uphold Philadelphia Union's wishes, they will have left the deal in its tracks until the completion of the MLS is Back tournament.

Coincidentally, that tournament ends on Tuesday so talks could resume in the imminent future over McKenzie's future and a move to Scotland.

In terms of replacing Simunovic, he would surely be ideal. Although the Croatian is a taller individual, Celtic's target is still an absolute monster in the air.

Mark McKenzie

Despite standing a 6 foot, he has won a massive 4.5 aerial duels per game in MLS. On top of that, he performs three successful tackles per match.

Clearly an aggressive player, the youngster is also fairly capable of playing the ball on the deck and out from the back.

An individual with natural leadership, he should have no trouble following in the footsteps of players like Timothy Weah - another American to don the famous green and white shirt.
