Leeds United are preparing for life in the big leagues.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side won promotion to the Premier League after their genuinely brilliant 2019/20 campaign.

Leeds won the league by a comfortable margin of 10 points from second-placed West Bromwich Albion, while they were also 12 clear of third-placed Brentford.

It marks an end to 16 years in the wilderness and they are now back where some would say they belong.

They will be taking on the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City next season, and they need to strengthen as a result.

It remains to be seen how much money will be available for the club, as they look to strengthen Bielsa’s squad ahead of their transition into the top-flight.

But targets have been identified.

Sport Witness carries a report from Calciomercato claiming that there is interest in an attacking midfielder.

Nicolae Stanciu is a potential acquisition, and he currently plays for Slavia Prague in the Czech Republic.

A Romania international, who scored four goals and registered eight assists in 26 league games, he is in demand, with CFR Cluj and a number of English clubs also interested.

Leeds, though, are “in the front row” to sign him, and Stanciu is valued at €8 million (£7.1m), meaning he could be a low-cost acquisition for director of football Victor Orta.

Stanciu is 27 and has won 37 caps for his country, scoring 10 goals.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

Stanciu is something of an unknown quality in terms of top-tier European football.

He has been something of a nomad throughout his career, playing for the likes of Steaua Bucharest, Anderlecht, and Al-Ahli, as well as Slavia Prague.

He has played in the Champions League, making 15 appearances throughout his career, but he has never scored or assisted a goal in the competition.

However, it seems that scouts are casting their nets far and wide to strengthen Bielsa’s team.

They have clearly seen something in Stanciu and at just £7.1m, he would be something of a bargain if he could become a first-team star.

It is a low-risk move and if the deal is affordable, Leeds should do it.
