West Ham United secured survival, just.

The Hammers were in genuinely abysmal form throughout the 2019/20 season and almost fell through the trap door into the Championship.

They finished the season in 16th place, just five points clear of the bottom three.

Their end to the season provided some hope for the future, though, as they went unbeaten in their final four games.

Wins over Norwich City and Watford, who were both relegated, and draws with Manchester United and Aston Villa ultimately secured survival.

One man was central to that run: Michail Antonio.

The versatile winger scored eight goals in the final seven games of the campaign, including an incredible four-goal haul in the 4-0 win over Norwich.

And the Hammers are now set to reward him.

The Daily Mail reports that they have entered into talks with Antonio over a new contract that would see him become one of their top earners.

The likes of Andriy Yarmolenko, Sebastien Haller, and Jack Wilshere all earn at least £100,000-per-week, but Antonio is currently earning £65,000-per-week.

His new deal would see him climb the wage structure following a genuinely exceptional end to the season.

It is well deserved, and the Hammers will hope to find a swift resolution with the former Tooting and Mitcham man.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

Antonio deserves this.

He may be 30 but his contract is expiring at the end of next season.

And few can argue with the assertion that he has played his way into his manager’s good books.

David Moyes clearly sees a future with Antonio, who played as a centre-forward post-lockdown, and he is clearly an excellent, prolific option.

This is as much a show of faith as it is a reward, and Antonio will hope to reward the Irons for their trust in the 2020/21 season.
