There’s even been a lot of negative focus on Bruno Fernandes, who has been Man United’s best player this year. That’s what we’ve all come to expect from fans on ‘Football Twitter’, but you don’t really expect it from the social media companies themselves.p1efi0mhkotf21kv46811vibhubb.jpgThat’s why it came as so much of a surprise when the official Twitter account mocked Jones on Tuesday night. The Twitter UK account posted a tweet that read ‘Name a better footballer than Phil Jones’.p1efi0jhm51evmgvoetvscd191c9.jpgIt quickly received hundreds of likes and retweets but was also condemned by fans for being unnecessarily harsh. And it’s not just the fans who complained. According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United complained to Twitter about the post.Twitter responded by deleting the tweet and issuing an apology to both Jones and United.

Twitter’s own rules of policies regarding content posting include a line stating: “You may not engage in the targeted harassment of someone, or incite other people to do so.”

Jones has struggled with injuries in recent years, falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

He played in just two Premier League games this season and hasn’t travelled to Germany for the Europa League final eight tournament.

“Phil has been following an individualised training programme during the post-lockdown period to optimise recovery from a knee problem," United boss Solskjaer told the club website,” per the Mirror.

"It was a good opportunity as we had sufficient cover in defensive positions for the remaining Premier League games and he will continue to work with a fitness coach at the Aon Training Complex, while the squad are in Germany."
