Leeds United certainly mean business.

After securing promotion from the Championship in dominant style, attention has now turned to life in the top flight.

Marcelo Bielsa's side have been nothing short of extraordinary to watch since he arrived at the club in 2018, and for that he deserves plenty of plaudits.

But for the Argentine he's about to face his biggest challenge yet.

The difference between the Premier League and the Championship is frightening - and that's something that Leeds must be wary of.

The Whites will have aspirations of doing more than just avoiding the drop, but consolidating their spot in the top tier has to be the priority.

A lot has changed in the 16 years since they last graced England's Premier League, and that means that they cannot be complacent.

If the Yorkshire side are to compete they're going to have to strengthen.

Bielsa's current squad certainly deserve a chance to show what they can do in the top tier, but it'd be naive to resist the urge to sign new players.

Many positions have been tipped as areas to improve, but none more than at centre-back.

Ben White is the preferred target, but with Leeds struggling to agree a fee with Brighton for the 22-year-old, they seem to be looking elsewhere in order to make progress.

Reports from the Daily Star have claimed that the Whites are in talks with Lucas Martinez Quarta.

The defender currently plays for River Plate in Argentina but is attracting plenty of attention from West Yorkshire.

Valued at £9million by Transfermarkt, the 24-year-old is also said to be a target for Celta Vigo, Hertha Berlin, AC Milan and Real Betis.

It's claimed that Quarta has an £18million release clause in his contract - however he could be available for less given the fact that he has just one year left on his deal.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This is a move that seems to be gathering pace.

Lucas Martinez Quarta doesn't appear to be seen as Leeds United's primary target in central defence, but is certainly an option.

It'll be no surprise that Ben White is the man that the Whites are hoping to sign this summer.

However if a deal proves too difficult to agree then it seems that Marcelo Bielsa could be tempted by a move for his countryman.

With a value of just £9million, Quarta would certainly offer decent value in the current market.
