Atalanta 1-2 PSG: Ranking Neymar's 7 best Champions League performances

Neymar's record in the Champions League is incredible

Neymar's performance last night in PSG's dramatic 2-1 win versus Atalanta was a joy to watch.

The brilliant Brazilian grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and pretty much dragged PSG to the finish line single handedly.

Marquinhos and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting may have grabbed the late goals to overturn Mario Pasalic's opener, but it was Neymar who was the architect behind the victory.

The 28-year-old has now scored 35 goals and assisted another 23 in his 58 appearances in the Champions League, a phenomenal record.

He thrives on the big stage and we've decided to have a go at ranking Neymar's seven best performances throughout his career in the Champions League.

7. PSG vs Liverpool, 2018

We were going to include Neymar's hat-trick against Red Star Belgrade at seventh, but we've opted for his brilliant display against Jurgen Klopp's Reds the same season instead.

The Brazilian tormented Liverpool's defence, finishing off a devastating counter to make it 2-0 on the night.

Even the great Virgil van Dijk couldn't live with the pace and ingenuity of Neymar.

6. Barcelona vs Celtic, 2013

Neymar's first hat-trick in the competition came in Barcelona's 6-1 thrashing of Celtic in the 2013/14 group stage.

The Brazilian had only arrived at the club that summer, but he took centre stage in a Blaugrana line up without Lionel Messi.

He even claimed the assist for Pedro Rodriguez's goal - a complete performance.

5. PSG vs Borussia Dortmund, 2020

Neymar's bizarre taunting of Dortmund's Erling Haaland after PSG's 2-0 win back in March was in very bad taste, but his performance on the pitch was anything but.

The Brazilian scored the opening goal of the game with a header to put the French side in the driving seat and he tormented Dortmund's defence throughout.

When he's at his best, Neymar is pretty much unstoppable and PSG's place in the quarter-finals this season was largely down to their main man.

4. Barcelona vs Juventus, 2015

Only the very best turn up on the biggest stage of all.

Neymar did just that against Juve in the 2015 final, scoring the crucial third goal to secure Barca their fifth European Cup and their second treble.

Juve just couldn't handle him and it was arguably the night that saw the Brazilian crowned as the third best player on the planet.

3. PSG vs Atalanta, 2020

Last night's virtuoso display from Neymar takes third spot on our list.

The Brazilian completed 16 dribbles in total, equalling the Champions League record and claimed the assist for Marquinhos' equaliser.

Without Neymar, PSG would be packing their bags and heading back to the French capital today.

2. Bayern Munich vs Barcelona, 2015

Barca actually lost this game at the Allianz Arena 3-2, but don't let that distract you from the brilliance of Neymar that night in Bavaria.

The Brazilian grabbed two crucial away goals to end any hope of a comeback from Bayern after the Blaugrana's 3-0 win in the first leg.

Bayern's defence were torn apart by the brilliant trio of Neymar, Messi and Luis Suarez - poetry in motion.

1. Barcelona vs PSG, 2017

One of the most famous individual performances in Champions League history and it's hard to see Neymar ever topping it.

With the score at 3-1 and Barca all but out, the Brazilian went into superhuman mode and completed possibly the greatest comeback ever witnessed in European football.

He made it 4-1 with a laser-guided free-kick, before giving Barca fans hope with his second of the game from the penalty spot.

Then with virtually the last kick of the match, Neymar showed outrageous composure to chip the ball into the path of the on-rushing Sergi Roberto to make it 6-1.

Neymar vs PSG

When the Brazilian hangs up his boots, he'll go down as one of the Champions League's greatest ever players.

He'll now look to join an exclusive club of players who have won the competition with two clubs and with Neymar in the form he's in, PSG have a serious chance of European glory.
