Leeds United pursuit of Premier League ace takes fresh twist

Leeds United have big plans for the next few weeks.

With the Premier League season under a month away it's a nerve-wracking time for clubs in the top flight.

Having such a tight window to do transfer business ahead of the big kick-off is far from ideal, but at least every club is in the same situation.

The Whites have plenty of work to do in the transfer market as they look to adjust to life in the fast lane.

After spending 16 years outside of the Premier League they're now back and determined to stick around for more than just one year.

The difference in quality between the top two tiers is frightening, and that means that Leeds can't afford to take the challenge lightly.

Signing players with experience of the top flight could be key, and that's an area that Victor Orta and his recruitment team have been keen to explore.

One player who has been linked is Juan Foyth.

The Tottenham Hotspur defender has found first team opportunities hard to come by of late, suggesting that his long-term future could be away from North London.

Leeds have been credited with a strong interest in the Argentine, but according to Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic, it's a move that is unlikely to happen.

Writing for The Athletic, Eccleshare said: “Juan Foyth is a really exciting player and I hope it works out for him, whether at Spurs or elsewhere.

“The latest is that he has not yet sat down to discuss his future with the club but that for the moment he wants to stay and fight for his place.

“There’s also a month-long gap between the season starting and the summer transfer window closing, so unless he has more clarity before then, he will wait to see if his first-team prospects have improved and if not look for a move elsewhere.

“As we have reported previously, Foyth feels he needs to move soon, either permanently or on loan, if he continues to be overlooked.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This will be a real blow to Leeds United.

Juan Foyth is a player who has been regularly linked with a move to Elland Road ever since the club starting closing in on promotion.

A centre-back is certainly a top priority for Marcelo Bielsa's side, with the Spurs man being one of those heavily linked.

However it seems that his future could be decided.

Unless Foyth is told that he's surplus to requirements, it seems that the defender is keen to fight for his place under Jose Mourinho.

Whether he will prove successful in that battle remains to be seen, but he's certainly capable of playing in the top tier.
