Manchester United’s pursuit of Jadon Sancho just keeps rolling on.
The England international has been at the centre of a major transfer saga throughout the last few months.
There have been numerous twists surrounding the club’s pursuit of the winger, who has been in brilliant form for Borussia Dortmund in 2019/20.
He scored 20 goals and registered 20 assists, earning his stripes as perhaps the best young player in world football.
There have been numerous contradictory reports surrounding Sancho’s possible move to Old Trafford.
The English press previously reported that there was confidence over a potential £90 million deal, with a conclusion set to be reached.
Just a few days later, though, Sky Sports reported that United would not be bullied into a deal and felt the German club’s asking price of €120m (£108.5m) was too high.
Dortmund had set a deadline of Monday for a deal to be agreed, which has obviously passed, and he is currently with the club in their pre-season training camp in Switzerland.
And Sport Witness now carries a report from Bild claiming that Dortmund believe they could receive even more next summer.
They report that he could be “gold-plated” following the COVID-19 pandemic and is set to extend his stay at Dortmund until 2023.
This is a bullish outlook, but it doesn’t seem all that far-fetched.
GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…
Sancho would be a wonderful signing for United but it really does feel that they’ve missed the boat.
The deadline was there, the price was clear, and the fee has not been agreed.
If he does stick around at Signal Iduna Park for another season, he could well fetch a genuine fortune next summer.
There will be clubs surely queueing around the block to get a deal done, and United may face some proper competition when it comes to snaffling him up then.
They appeared to be the only possible destination this term.
Next time, though, they could well end up being gazumped.News Now - Sport News
