Manchester City continue their quest for Champions League glory on Saturday night.

Pep Guardiola's side face Lyon in the quarter-finals of this season's mini-tournament, which is currently being contested in Lisbon.

City are considered the favourites to lift the European Cup on August 23 and it would be their first-ever crown.

After almost a decade of domestic dominance, the Champions League is the one prize that has eluded the club so far. It's what their owners crave most.

Guardiola was brought in to deliver that trophy but so far, he's proven unsuccessful.

Will this finally be Man City's year? Only time will tell.

Rio Ferdinand believes that if it's not - and if they don't win the Champions League under Guardiola at all - then his time at the club will be considered a failure.

Ferdinand thinks Guardiola would be considered a failure at Man City

"He has been brought in by their owners specifically to win the Champions League, whether he likes it or not," the Man United legend said.

"They were winning the Premier League before he arrived. So he hasn’t so far achieved anything at City that nobody else has.

"He can say what he wants about not being judged on the Champions League because he has to protect himself - but he has been brought in to win this tournament.

Pep needs to win the Champions League

"I’m not saying he would be unsuccessful if he doesn’t manage to win it. But he would not have done what was on the tin."

Absolutely brutal, Rio.

GIVEMESPORT's Ollie Browning says:

Now, that's a little harsh on Guardiola. Yes, the big aim is to win the Champions League - but let's not forget what he's already done at Man City.

Back-to-back titles and a record-breaking season. Check. The domestic quadruple. Check. Developing a number of players into world-class talent. Check.

Guardiola has achieved a lot at Man City

All in all, we think the club will be happy with the progress Pep has made since arriving in 2016.

A Champions League crown in the coming years is essential, yes. But if City do somehow fail to win it under Guardiola, his time in Manchester still won't be considered anywhere near a failure.
