Aston Villa have threatened and looked to make statements in the transfer window, but so far, we are yet to see anyone actually arrive in the Midlands.

The Villans have had their eyes on a plethora of players, predominantly in the Championship and Premier League.

Targeting those who are based domestically seems to be the policy put in place by new Sporting Director Johan Lange.

He replaces Suso, a man who alongside Dean Smith and Christian Purslow, spent around £140m last summer.

Just how many funds the Villans will have to spend this time around remains to be seen, but if they're to cement themselves in the top-flight, they need proven additions.

Reunions for Smith with the likes of Ollie Watkins and Said Benrahma have been touted while Rico Henry is even an option.

That being said, for all of the English-based players they've been linked with, it's one on German shores that could arrive.

Dean Smith issues instructions

According to Kosovan journalist, Arlind Sadiku, Aston Villa are closing in on their first signing of the summer.

He suggests that Villa are now favourites to sign Werder Bremen forward Milot Rashica and his agent is now in advanced talks over a potential move.

Sadiku claims that next week will be decisive in the future of Rashica who could also choose between Leipzig, Monaco and Wolves.

Express & Star believe that the Kosovo international would cost around £22m, a fee that would represent the same outlay as Wesley last summer.

Milot Rashica runs with the ball

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Everything we're being told about Rashica dictates that he'd be an excellent signing for Villa, especially for a club that lacked firepower this season.

They finished with a goal difference of -26, the third-worst tally in the entire division and they can consider them fortunate to still be a Premier League team.

Rashica found the back of the net 11 times in 2019/20 but has been described as a player who makes "scoring look so easy" by Bremen coach Florian Kohfeldt.

Milot Rashica challenged by Mats Hummels

Furthermore, he's been compared to Alexis Sanchez, a man who set England alight after scoring 30 goals in one campaign for Arsenal. Rashica is a player with "pace to burn", according to the Bundesliga website, and that would add something completely new to Villa's front line.

Wesley is a sluggish attacker who likes the ball to feet while Mbwana Samatta is more of a poacher than someone who likes to get in behind.

Thus, not only would the 24-year-old improve the club's ability to score goals, but he'd also give them a more attractive way of playing, possessing the ability to play on the flanks as well.

There are only plus points to Aston Villa securing this deal.
