Football clubs will be feeling the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic for years to come.

While the on-pitch action has returned post-lockdown, COVID-19 has derailed matters in the boardroom.

It's expected to be a quieter summer than usual, with big money transfers seemingly off the table for most clubs.

Some will likely be turning to a bargain or two over the next few years and there will be plenty of them around.

In fact, some of Europe's biggest stars have just entered the final year of their contract.

That means, in simple terms, if they don't sign a new deal, they will be available for a cut-price - or even on a free transfer.

Some of the biggest names in the Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1 are all now in the last 12 months of their contracts.

Messi will be available on a free

Let's check out who they are, per Planet Football.

Note - An * next to a name indicates that the club has an option to extend their contract for another year.

Telles is highly-rated

There are some massive names on that list. Let's break it down by the leagues, shall we?

Premier League bargains

Man United and Arsenal need to act quick to tie their top stars down to new contracts.

Aubameyang is said to be close to signing a new deal, but Pogba might walk away from Old Trafford next summer.

Aguero is perhaps coming to the end of his time at Man City, but at 32, he could still be a top player elsewhere if Pep Guardiola lets him go.

La Liga stars on the move?

The two names that stand out on this list are Messi and Suarez. Barcelona would be crazy to let either one go and need to get new contracts sorted.

Real Madrid also face losing first-team stars. We expect Rodriguez to go, but efforts will surely be made by Los Blancos to keep Ramos, Vasquez and even Modric.

Barca could lose two of their stars

Bayern in trouble?

As you can probably guess, Bayern stars dominate the Bundesliga list. In 12 months, Alaba, Boateng, Martinez and Thiago will all be free agents.

The latter might be sold on this summer, but we can see the Bundesliga champions trying to tie a few of the other names down.

Borussia Dortmund will do well to keep hold of the highly-rated Reyna too.

Dortmund will want to keep Reyna

Serie A superstars to sign?

Donnarumma is still regarded as one of the best young goalkeepers around, so AC Milan should be scrambling to offer him a contract extension.

Napoli and Juventus also have a couple of stars coming to the end of their deals, but if Higuain is the biggest loss for Andrea Pirlo next summer, he won't be too devastated.

Higuain could leave Juve

Leaving Ligue 1?

PSG have a number of first-team stars in the final 12 months of their contracts. Di Maria, Draxler and Bernat could all walk away from the club after successful spells.

Lyon's Depay will likely have a number of suitors too, given how well he's rebuilt his career in France.

Di Maria could be off

It looks like there will be plenty of talent to pick up next summer. Of course, there's a chance some of these big names will sign new deals, or be moved on for a fee.

But don't be surprised to see some of the biggest names in Europe available for nothing in 2021.
