Leeds United owe so much to Marcelo Bielsa.

After taking over as head coach two years ago the progress that has been made by the club is astonishing.

Previously a team who struggled to reach the upper echelons of the Championship, Bielsa's first season in charge saw them narrowly miss out on automatic promotion before being edged out of the play-offs by Derby County.

Last season, they were not going to make the same mistake again.

Winning the league by 10 points, Leeds were unstoppable as their superior fitness and tactical set-up saw them cruise to glory.

But now the club are at a crossroads.

Bielsa is out of contract this summer, and while he's expected to pen a new deal at Elland Road, speculation will continue over his future until he signs on the dotted line.

That leaves the Whites open to the Argentine being poached by bigger clubs.

Barcelona are one who could be looking for a new head coach with Quique Setien on the verge of losing his job.

While many names could be tempted by the move, former Chelsea man Tony Cascarino has sensationally claimed that Bielsa could be the man to head to the Nou Camp.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Cascarino said: “It’s an incredible job and they would have a number of great managers lined up.

“If you said to me tomorrow, ‘who would I want to take?’ Sorry Leeds fans, but I would be after Bielsa every day of the week.

“I could see it working.

“He’s all about that Barcelona type of football, the way they play, that hunger, the emphasis on young players.

“Barcelona can attract the very best players in the world and, if they could do that, I’d want a manager of his ilk.

“I’ve seen what he’s done at Marseille, I’ve seen what he’s done at Leeds, and I see the way he plays football, the fans out there would adore Bielsa.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This would be quite spectacular, but thankfully for Leeds United fans I can't see it happening.

Barcelona is surely the most desirable job in the world and that means that any manager would love to be in with a chance of getting the job.

But Marcelo Bielsa is different.

After putting two years into the project at Elland Road, I just can't see him moving on just yet.

With the club preparing for life in the Premier League I'm sure he'd like to pit his wits against against some of the best sides in the world.

I'm sure his style of play would fit perfectly at the Nou Camp, but I'd be very surprised if it happened.
