Ben White enjoyed a superb season in 2019/20.

The Brighton & Hove Albion defender made a loan move to Leeds United in the summer transfer window and became a key player at Elland Road.

He did not miss a single game in the Championship.

And, of course, Marcelo Bielsa’s side won the league, taking 93 points from 46 games and winning the league by 10 points from second-placed West Bromwich Albion.

They will now be heading back into the Premier League for the first time in 16 years.

White, though, has returned to Brighton, and his future is far from settled.

Reports suggest that the Whites are keen to sign him permanently, while there is also interest from Liverpool.

But The Sun now claims that no decision will be made until pre-season is completed.

Boss Graham Potter is keen to see White up close and wants to train him before making a firm decision.

White has personally stalled on a possible contract extension and the report states that he has been offered £25,000-per-week, though that could rise to £50,000-per-week if Potter is keen to keep him.

It means that Leeds will have to wait to see if Brighton are willing to countenance White’s exit.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

There has to be some frustration at Leeds over this stance but it does make sense.

White has obviously played brilliantly under the management of Marcelo Bielsa but Leeds play in a very specific style.

It remains to be seen if he will be able to take to Potter’s methods and that is surely why he is so keen to see him in training.

It is a pragmatic way of thinking but could lead to frustration for Leeds further down the line.

They will need a centre-back this summer to replace White’s influence if they cannot secure his signature.

And it means that they will have a decision to make: Should they sign a new defender in anticipation of White remaining at the AMEX, or should they wait and try to bring him in permanently?

It is a puzzler for Bielsa.
