Bernardo Silva is rattled. The Portuguese has branded Liverpool fans ‘pathetic’ on Twitter for their reaction to Manchester City crashing out of the Champions League. On Saturday night, City’s season ended in bitter disappointment as they were humbled 3-1 by Lyon in Lisbon. It means Pep Guardiola’s side only have a Community Shield and a League Cup to show for their efforts this season. And Liverpool fans have clearly been revelling in City’s demise with Silva being a target.Kopites probably chose to troll Silva due to the fact he failed to applaud champions Liverpool during their guard of honour back in July.

The banter was all too much for the City midfielder, who tweeted: “And to all Liverpool fans that have nothing else to do than to come to a Man City player account, I’m also sorry for you but for the wrong reasons…pathetic... go celebrate your titles, or try to find a partner, drink a beer with a friend, read a book...so many options!”

Yeah, we’re sure Liverpool fans will leave you alone now after that…

As you’d expect, they all found it hilarious and ensured they told Bernardo exactly what they thought of his tweet.

And it seems Bernardo’s tweet has now been seen by the Liverpool squad.

Shortly after Silva’s little cry - 30 minutes to be exact - Virgil van Dijk sent a perfectly timed tweet of his own before quickly deleting it.

He simply posted the sweat smile emoji with a picture of him looking rather smug.

It wasn’t a coincidence and Liverpool supporters knew it.

Of course, Liverpool fans still remember City players singing about their club following the 2018/19 season.

Guardiola’s side had pipped Liverpool to the Premier League title when their players were caught singing about Vincent Kompany injuring Salah, Liverpool fans being “battered” in the streets and the Reds winning ‘F all.’

The lyrics were:

"All the way to Kiev,
To end up in defeat.
Crying in the stands,
And battered on the streets.
Kompany injured Salah,
Victims of it all.
Sterling won the double,
The Scousers won F all.
Allez, allez, allez!"

Did you have nothing better to do, Bernardo?
