Manchester United are out of the Europa League after losing 2-1 to Sevilla. With the score locked at 1-1, Sevilla struck late on through Luuk de Jong to end United’s dreams of a European trophy. Some questionable defending from United allowed De Jong to turn the ball home from close range after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side had spent the majority of the second half on top.Aaron Wan-Bissaka stopped tracking the Sevilla forward and Victor Lindelof couldn’t stop Jesus Navas’ delivery. Solskjaer will be asking questions of the duo.“Lindelof’s got to open up there, he’s got nobody to mark,” said BT Sport co-commentator Robbie Savage. “He’s got to open his body up."Wan-Bissaka’s got to go back with De Jong as well. It’s terrible defending.”

United’s frustrations were clear for all to see. Indeed, Lindelof and Bruno Fernandes were seen getting into it on the pitch after the goal.

Neither player looked happy. The camera only showed the back of Fernandes but Lindelof clearly shouted at his teammate in anger.

The centre-back’s words have been translated and it’s alleged that he said ‘vai tomar no cu filho da puta’, which means ‘go f*** yourself, son of a b****.’

Ouch.

Fernandes was the player to give Man United the lead when the Red Devils were awarded an early penalty.

It was their 22nd of the season but Sevilla could have few complaints. Diego Carlos clattered Marcus Rashford and a spot-kick was the right decision.

But United’s lead didn’t last long. Former Liverpool man Suso finished off a neat move in the 26th minute to draw the Spanish side level.

United peppered Sevilla’s goal in the second half and were frustrated by Yassine Bounou, who was excellent in goal.

And with 12 minutes to go, United were made to pay for their wastefulness.

Defeat means it's now three seasons without a trophy for the club, and a stark reminder of the work they still need to do.
