It’s incredibly hard to watch Lionel Messi in this current Barcelona side. The Argentinian really couldn’t do any more in his attempts to drag this team to glory. He scored 25 goals and assisted 21 in La Liga, and he’s also WhoScored’s third-highest rated player in the Champions League. But the 33-year-old will be left to reflect on a campaign that ended without a major trophy. Not since 2014/15 has Messi won the Champions League with Barcelona and as each year passes, his chances of adding a fifth winner’s medal to his collection becoming slimmer. That's because it’s tough to imagine Barcelona, who are currently in a real mess from top to bottom, competing for the European trophy for quite a few more years.p1efrsg9vi1ldo1bo219vbmsms9.jpgMessi won’t want to leave the Camp Nou, but he deserves an awful lot better. He’s faced similar difficulties on the international stage with Barcelona, losing in four major finals with his country. We could one day look back on his career and think that he should have won so many more trophies.

It was a shame to watch as Messi sat dejected in the dressing room at half-time during Barcelona’s 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich on Friday, and that added to a catalogue of his worst moments.

For despite all of his success, it’s not always easy being Messi.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner has to deal with intense scrutiny and suggestions he’s a failure every time Barcelona or Argentina don’t succeed.

A video has been shared on Twitter that shows how difficult he has it.

From being asked by his young son about criticism from journalists to those heartbreaking defeats with Barcelona and Argentina, it serves as a reminder of the unfair pressure that Messi has to cope with.

“He’s a human after all, can’t do it all by himself,” reads a tweet from @LFCrezz, who shared the video. “He needs help from his teammates.”

You hear about the salary and see the individual accolades. But many forget that Messi is human and that he has feelings, like the rest of us.

The story he tells about his young children hearing the negative stories about him is truly sad.

He deserves better on and off the pitch.
