The last 18 months have been a time to savour for Liverpool supporters.

Over the past 30 they haven't had too many moments to bounce up and down about, but in the last year or so, they have had plenty.

Jurgen Klopp has turned the Reds into a team to be reckoned with - few would disagree that they are now one of the most ominous teams in world football.

Last season, they won the Champions League after defeating Tottenham in the final, and soon after, they were winning the FIFA Club World Cup.

However, the most valuable piece of silverware for supporters and indeed the club, would have been the Premier League title.

Ending over three decades of hurt, this crop of players managed to achieve something the likes of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher never managed to do.

Klopp has very quickly become a club legend at Anfield but his journey in Merseyside may be over sooner rather than later.

Jurgen Klopp

That's because the German has plans to depart Liverpool.

Klopp revealed this week, that in a surprise turn of events, he will be taking a year away from coaching.

Fortunately for Liverpool, however, that won't be until 2024 once he has honoured his contract with the Reds.

In an interview with Sports Buzzer (via Goal), the Premier League Manager of the Year was quizzed about his future. He responded:

"I'll take a year off and ask myself if I miss football. If I say no, then that will be the end of coach Jurgen Klopp.

“If one day I am no longer a coach, there is one thing I will not miss: the brutal tension immediately before the game."

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

If Klopp does honour his Liverpool contract and depart in four years time, then he will have been in the Anfield hot seat for nearly a decade.

He arrived with the club in limbo - they were repeatedly finishing outside of the Champions League spots and they had some pretty shambolic players to boot.

Remember Joe Allen? Christian Benteke? Mamadou Sakho? They were all at the club when Klopp first arrived.

The differences in the quality of the squad now are remarkable. They have genuine world-class players in Virgil van Dijk, Alisson, Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and more.

Liverpool squad

You could easily reel off the entire XI without even needing a debate over whether they were good players.

He has transformed Liverpool and made them one of the best sides on the planet.

They won the Premier League title at an absolute canter and few would bet against them doing it again next term.

Klopp may have won the two most important honours, but there is still more silverware to fill the trophy cabinet with.
