Manchester United fans were probably still getting over their devastating Europa League semi-final when they heard the news Romelu Lukaku had scored twice to send Inter Milan into the final. They probably wouldn’t have been watching it themselves.United had 20 attempts but conspired to lose 2-1 to Sevilla on Sunday night to bring an end to another trophyless season. It meant Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side had a total of 46 shots in their quarter-final against Copenhagen and their semi-final against Sevilla, but could only score with two Bruno Fernandes penalties.Twenty-four hours later, former striker Lukaku scored his 32nd and 33rd goals of the season as Inter beat Shakhtar 5-0 to progress into the Europa League final.p1efv8o3821eupbbj1rc41v8816stb.jpgA final between United and Lukaku’s Inter - who also have former Red Devils Ashley Young and Alexis Sanchez in their ranks - was the final that many neutral fans wanted. After his heroics, Lukaku himself was asked if he was disappointed that United lost to Sevilla denying that reunion. After the way things didn’t work out for him at Old Trafford and how Solskjaer wanted to sell him, Lukaku could easily have trolled his former club. Especially if he ever saw some of the stick he got on social media by United fans.Instead, he gave an incredibly classy answer.

"United tried their hardest," Lukaku replied. "I think they had a really good season.

"I think Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer) did a really good job. The players, they did really well. Greenwood coming through, Martial and Rashford – I expected all of that. I’m really happy for them. They look really good for next season, I have no doubt."

Respect, Romelu.

It was something that United supporters really appreciated. Check out their reaction on Twitter:

But how can Lukaku go from being unwanted at the Theatre of Dreams to scoring 33 goals in his first season at Inter?

Well former Man Utd and Inter Milan player, Paul Ince, think it’s a combination of happiness and fitness.

“Lukaku didn’t struggle [to score at United], he scored goals, let’s get that right,” Ince said on BT Sport after the game. “He wasn’t happy under (Jose) Mourinho. Sometimes you find the right person, the right country. If you’re happy you will perform.

"He looked fit and lean. Talking about when he was at Manchester United, he didn’t look like he could get around the park. He’s just running past people [now]. Pace! I was fitter at Inter – whether it’s the climate or the food. He looks like a different animal. We know he can finish. Wow.”
