It's set to be a busy summer for Leeds United.

After a 16-year spell outside of the top flight, the Whites secured promotion last term in emphatic fashion.

A huge part of that success can be credited to Marcelo Bielsa.

The Argentine has been a revelation since he took charge two years ago.

As well as revamping the side’s playing style, he’s also made Leeds incredibly difficult to beat – something that was showed with an impressive campaign last time out.

Bielsa’s side finished the season 10 points clear at the top of the league, meaning that they’ll be full of confidence for their return to the Premier League.

But Leeds must avoid being overconfident.

The difference in standard between the top two sides is frightening, and for that the Whites must be prepared.

While Bielsa will be determined to keep most of his current squad together, they’ll need to strengthen.

If they’re to compete in the top flight then Leeds will need players with experience at that level.

One player who’s been linked is Shane Duffy.

Reports in Scotland have claimed that Leeds are rivaling Celtic for the signature of the Brighton man.

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan said: “Gaetano Berardi is out for a long time so we don’t really have any recognised centre-halves bar the young lads coming through.

“With Premier League football and the players you’re coming up against you’re going to get found out pretty quickly.

“We need experience and Shane Duffy has played in the Premier League, he knows what it’s all about. He’s a competitor, a leader and I’m sure lots of clubs are looking at him.

“He’s one player I look at him and think ‘yeah if we can add him to the squad along with another centre-half then we’re covering two positions’.

“We do need quality, we can’t get away with average in the Premier League, you’ll soon get found out.

“We don’t want to be a one season wonder, working so hard to get into the Premier League. We’ve got to make sure we buy the right players and don’t overextend ourselves with the money we’ve got.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This would be an outstanding move for Leeds United.

Described by Graham Potter as 'first class', Shane Duffy is a player who has a wealth of experience at Premier League level, and that must be hugely appealing for the Whites.

It seems that Duffy could be deemed surplus to requirements this summer, and that means that a move could be well-timed.

Of course any move will depend on the pursuit of Ben White.

If White is deemed to be part of Graham Potter’s plans, then it would be silly for Leeds to continue pursuing him.

But the upside would be that a move for Duffy could then be on the cards.
