SummerSlam returns this Sunday.

WWE have been building up to the biggest event of the summer and we're in for a real treat.

For the first time since March, the show won't be airing from the Performance Center in Orlando and instead will take place at the Amway Center.

The card is pretty stacked too.

We'll see Dominik Mysterio make his in-ring debut against Seth Rollins, Sasha Banks and Bayley defend all the gold and Drew McIntyre take on Randy Orton.

It's going to be epic.

So to get us in the mood for the event, we're looking back at seven of the greatest SummerSlam matches of all time.

The best SummerSlam match of all time?

1. Bret Hart vs. The British Bulldog - Intercontinental Championship Match (1992)

There was no way we weren't putting this match top of the list. Bret Hart. Davey Boy Smith. London.

The build-up was epic, as the bout between two brothers-in-law split the Hart family in half. When they finally got in the ring, it lived up to all expectations.

It was The British Bulldog who won the Intercontinental title in the main event, which ended with him, Bret and Diana Hart hugging it out as the curtain came down.

2.  Edge and Christian vs The Dudley Boyz vs The Hardy Boyz - TLC Match (2000)

The first-ever official Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match took place at SummerSlam 2000.

It featured Edge and Christian vs The Dudley Boyz and The Hardy Boyz, so as you can probably guess, it's an all-time classic.

Their TLC match, which saw Edge and Christian defend the WWF Tag Team Championships, was so good that it went on to inspire the namesake PPV.

TLC was a classic 20 years ago

3. Triple H vs Shawn Michaels - Unsanctioned Match (2002)

Shawn Michaels may be Mr WrestleMania, but he put on some classics at SummerSlam too.

One of them was his return match against Triple H in 2002 when The Heartbreak Kid made his comeback after a couple of years away.

The rivalry between two of the best in the business was as brutal as it was epic, with plenty of blood on show. They don't make 'em like this anymore.

SummerSlam 2002 was brutal

4. John Cena vs Daniel Bryan - WWE Championship Match (2013)

This was a display of wrestling at the highest level. Daniel Bryan had reached peak popularity going into this match and was picked to face John Cena on the biggest stage.

The pair went back and forth for 27 minutes before The Beard pinned his opponent CLEAN in the centre of the ring, sending fans into a frenzy.

Sadly, that celebration was short-lived as Randy Orton came to cash-in his Money in the Bank and walked out of the building as WWE Champion that night.

5. Brock Lesnar vs The Rock - WWE Undisputed Championship Match (2002)

Well, SummerSlam 2002 was great, wasn't it? Not only did it feature a host of legends going back and forth, the event also established Brock Lesnar as a main event star.

He faced off with The Rock for the Undisputed Championship and it almost seemed like a passing of the touch.

Rocky was off to Hollywood - much to the annoyance of some fans - and put over the 'next big thing' in a very impressive match that night.

The Rock put Lesnar over in 2002

6. John Cena vs CM Punk - Undisputed WWE Championship Match (2011)

One of the most memorable rivalries in WWE history concluded at SummerSlam in 2011.

After walking out of the company a few months prior, CM Punk returned to face Cena and reclaim his place at the top of the company.

This match was undoubtedly the best of both wrestler's careers and is a great definition of 'catching lightning in a bottle' - that is - having the WWE Universe on the edge of their seats throughout.

Cena and Punk's rivalry was insane

7. The Demon King Finn Balor vs Seth Rollins - Inaugural WWE Universal Championship Match (2016)

Hear us out for a minute. Yes, fans hated the new belt and yes, they made those feelings clear. But what happened inside the ring was nothing short of brilliant.

Balor had recently been called up from NXT and battled his way into the co-main event of SummerSlam, where he actually BEAT Seth Rollins to win the Universal Championship.

Unfortunately, he suffered an injury which ended his run less than 24 hours after it started and what's even more upsetting is that Balor has never reached these heights since.

But that match with Rollins was still one hell of a classic.

So there we have it, seven of GIVEMESPORT's favourite SummerSlam matches. Let's hope some of the matches on this year's card can live up to the classics.
