It looks set to be a busy summer for Manchester United.

After a season in which Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's project seemed to come good, the Red Devils are firmly on track to continue their journey back to the top of the game.

A third place finish in the Premier League was as good as the club could have realistically hoped for, and that ensures that the club will be competing in the Champions League next time around.

While they may have fallen short in the Europa League, few are likely to have any real complaints as preparations for the new campaign get underway.

As such, efforts in the transfer market look like they'll be doubled in the coming weeks.

Several names have already been linked with a move to the club, with Jadon Sancho topping that list.

The future of the Borussia Dortmund star continues to dominate back pages with United keen to strike a deal.

But so far no agreement has been reached, leading the Premier League side to look at more cost-effective solution.

According to Sport Witness, one player who fits the bill is David Brooks.

The Bournemouth star is thought to be available this summer after suffering relegation from the top flight.

Described by Eddie Howe as 'an outstanding player', Brooks won't come cheap though, with reports claiming that the Cherries would command around £40million to get a deal done.

But while that price is seen as relatively steep for the Wales international, it's a drop in the ocean compared to the sums being discussed for Sancho.

Whether United will see Brooks as a genuine contender remains to be seen, but the report suggests that a deal could be a relatively quick solution to their dilemma on the right flank.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This could certainly be a shrewd move for Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined to strengthen his attacking options this summer - something that we've seen with the interest in Jadon Sancho.

That deal looks to be getting harder and harder to do, meaning that a move for an alternative option could now be preferable.

While David Brooks may not be the finished article, but with right guidance he could turn out to be an ideal addition to Solskjaer's squad.

That said, a fee of £40million is pretty steep.

Whether United see that as a fee worth paying for the 23-year-old, remains to be seen.
