Barcelona's Gerard Pique reportedly attracts interest from shock Premier League club

Gerard Pique is the Barcelona player who faced the press after their 8-2 humiliation against Bayern Munich.

It took a brave man to face the tough questions after one of the most one-sided games in Champions League history and let's just say that media training went out of the window for the Spaniard.

And credit to Pique, because he wasn't afraid to address Barcelona's innumerable issues head on and even went as far as saying that he would leave Camp Nou if it would benefit the club.

Pique open to leaving Barca

Per the Daily Mail, Pique said after the game: "It was a horrible performance and it leaves us with a terrible feeling. We have hit rock bottom. We feel embarrassed.

"You can’t compete as we have done tonight. This is very hard to take. And it’s not the first time, it’s not the second time, or the third time. We have hit rock bottom."

"The clubs need changes and I’m not talking about the coach or any one player. The club needs profound change. We need to reflect and do what is best for the club. I will be the first to offer to go if we need new blood."

A return to the Premier League?

So, there you have it, proof from the horse's mouth that leaving Barcelona isn't completely off the table this summer, particularly if the Catalans don't see a future for him at the club.

And although Pique is admittedly on the slide at 33 years old, there's no denying that there would be a long line of suitors to sign one of the greatest defenders of the last decade.

You'd even be forgiven for getting excited at the prospect of Pique returning to the Premier League, 12 years on from a quiet end to his Manchester United career.

Pique to Fulham!?!?

However... if an English football comeback is on the cards, then it might actually come in the form of a shock move to newly-promoted Fulham.

Yes, you read that right - F.U.L.H.A.M. Like when you've had too much to eat and then add a slice of pork on the end. Yeh, I know, honestly.

Well, that's according to Peruvian publication Libero who, per The Sun, claim that the Cottagers have made contact with Barcelona and there is 'an offer on the table' for him to move to London.

It's said that the ball is now in Barcelona's court if they want to 'negotiate' an exit for Pique that would see him link up with Scott Parker just weeks after the Play-Off Final win over Brentford.

GIVEMESPORT's Kobe Tong says

I'm saying it now: If Pique moves to Fulham, I'll get a tattoo of Craven Cottage. Take your screenshots, go on, I'm not scared.

Look, I don't claim to know which Peruvian sources have put two and two together here, but I can't see a world where Shakira is clapping away at Craven Cottage with a Fulham scarf around her neck.

Then again, Fulham certainly have a penchant for making bizarrely out-of-their-league signings when they return to the top flight, most notably and recently Jean Michaël Seri and Andre Schurrle.

But there are levels. We're talking about a three-time Champions League winner as well as a former world and European champion used to playing alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Don't get me wrong, he's not the player he used to be, but you just don't go from playing with the greatest footballer of all time one week to sharing a dressing room with Aboubakar Kamara the next.

If Fulham have indeed made a bid, which I'm thoroughly inclined to doubt, then I give them 10/10 for ambition and frankly, we could all learn something from the optimism of whichever staff member tried it.

I wonder if the New York Times fancy me as their next editor...?
