We love football, it's as simple as that. The drama that unfolds throughout the season is second-to-none, and we just wouldn't have it any other way.But we'd be lying if we were to say that we didn't also enjoy the summer period. We're not talking about the boring gap between two seasons, but more the month that proceeds the big kick-off.This year things are a little bit different and that turnaround is much sharper than usual, but that just makes it even more exciting. With transfer targets being identified, fixtures released and friendlies being played, there's so much to get stuck in to.But surely one of the more exciting aspects is the release of the forthcoming kits for the new season.Okay, we've seen some absolute shockers over the years as designers get more and more desperate to come up with something fresh and interest.p1eg61iqos1v2h103irhu1p561a5of.jpgMore often than not, those ideas end up being met with a resounding 'meh' from supporters. But every so often, one club gets the kit release absolutely spot on.This year, that club are AFC Ajax.To be honest, the Dutch side have a pretty impeccable record when it comes to kit launches with almost all of their strips being regarded as a resounding success. You can see the new kit designs below.

While the home and away kits are beautiful in their own rights, it's the third shirt which has really got supporters talking.

An ode to their 1971 European Cup triumph over Panathinaikos, Ajax have unveiled a new jersey for their upcoming European campaign.

Black and gold in colour, this shirt is bound to be a real hit with supporters of the club and beyond.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

My word to Ajax know how to do kit releases.

I don't know how they do it, but the Dutch side have an amazing record of keeping supporters happy with their shirt designs.

Whether it's the simplicity, or merely the fresh look on offer, they're always a hit.

Even the European jersey which pays tribute to their success in 1971 is beautiful - and that's coming from someone who is a bit of cynic when it comes to clubs releasing expensive kits year on year.

But as far as the black and gold is concerned, I'm a big fan.

Now, where's my credit card...
