Let's not kid ourselves, Alphonso Davies is a special young talent, one of many currently at home in the Bundesliga.

Whether it's Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland or even Jude Bellingham, the German top-flight is where some of the very best rising stars ply their trade.

Based on that, it's hardly a surprise that Bayern Munich have reached the Champions League final.

The Bundesliga is on the rise, proving to be trailblazers for football post-COVID-19 when they showed the rest of the world how things should be done.

They are an efficient league and it's improving all the time. If Bayern beat PSG on Sunday, it will be further evidence of the growing game in Germany.

They don't quite have the finances that major clubs around the globe possess, but that doesn't seem to matter.

Both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are more expensive than the entirety of Hansi Flick's squad - that sums things up nicely.

Yet, if Bayern were to ever sell Davies, it wouldn't be a great surprise if he was sold for over £100m. After all, he has quickly become one of the best left-backs in world football and at the age of 19, he is already valued at £54m.

Davies' growth has been quite incredible so lets tot up ten of the most intriguing facts about the Canada international.

Barcelona chose not to sign him

Yes, you read that right, the team that Bayern demolished in the quarter-finals of the Champions League refused to sign him. Shambolic.

It was revealed only last week that Barca were approached to sign him before Bayern snapped him up but club president Josep Maria Bartomeu's response was, "he's Canadian, no thanks."

What a terrible lack of judgement.

His girlfriend could also win the Champions League

Davies and his girlfriend could soon become a power couple. Why? Because Jordyn Huitema, his partner, is also a footballer. She plays for PSG who take on Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the women's Champions League on Saturday evening.

If they both win the tournament, they'd become the first couple to win the competition.

His international debut was at 16

This is absolutely crazy. Davies was playing international football for Canada before some of us had even left school. In doing so, he became the youngest player to ever feature for his national side.

Since making his debut, he has played 17 times, scoring five goals in the process. Impressive once again.

He was born in a refugee camp

This is perhaps one of the most intriguing facts of all. Davies hasn't had a straightforward life, being born in a Ghanaian refugee camp in November 2000 to Liberian parents.

They fled the Second Liberian Civil War and eventually moved to Edmonton, Canada, when Davies was just five years old.

Does anyone remember Freddy Adu? Yes? Well, he's now without a club after last playing for a side called Las Vegas Lights. Adu remains the youngster ever player to feature in Major League Soccer, but Davies isn't far behind.

He became the second-youngest player of all time when he played for Vancouver Whitecaps in 2016.

He was linked with PL heavyweights

Before his switch to Germany, the 19-year-old was linked with moves to a trio of Premier League clubs, switches which unfortunately for a British audience, failed to materialise.

An American source revealed to Metro in March 2017 that Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea were trailing the teenager.

First Canadian to score for Bayern

A certain Owen Hargreaves was Canadian born but played for England so doesn't count here. He scored during his time with Bayern but if we're focusing on those who are actually capped by Canada, then Davies is the first to net for the German giants.

He already has four goals and nine assists in just 48 matches for Die Roten.

Fastest player ever recorded in the Bundesliga

Davies is absolutely electrifying and has been recorded as the quickest player to ever play in the Bundesliga. This is quite the stat and sums up why he's such an exciting individual to watch play football.

He was recorded at a speed of 36.51 km/h in June 2020. No wonder Thomas Muller calls him the roadrunner.

He was eligible for Ghana and Liberia

The left wing-back was presented with a host of countries to play for before making his Canadian debut. Born in Ghana, he could have played for the African side or even Liberia - the birthplace of his parents.

However, after living in Canada for the majority of his life, it became his dream to play international football for The Canucks.

He's won a Golden Boot

Davies may be a defender but his attacking qualities are particularly eye-catching. He was one of the standout players at the 2017 Gold Cup with Canada and went onto win the Golden Boot after scoring three goals. Could a Gareth Bale type scenario be on the cards for Davies?

Time will tell.
