Chelsea have made some phenomenal acquisitions already this summer. We've seen Hakim Ziyech arrive from Ajax before Timo Werner signed for the Blues a few months ago.On top of that, they're also trying to do a deal to bring Kai Havertz to the club. That would certainly be eye-catching.The London club are clearly looking to cash in on a season where despite being at the centre of a transfer ban, were still able to qualify for the Champions League.Already Frank Lampard's side are looking like a force to be reckoned with ahead of the 2020/21 campaign and the thought of seeing Havertz slide balls through to Werner is a scary one. What's also exciting, is the sheer volume of young talent they have. Christian Pulisic is one of the most electrifying attackers in the division while Mason Mount is improving all the time. This Chelsea team do have weaknesses, though, one of which is at left-back.Frank LampardThe Blues are looking to strengthen that area this summer and fortunately for them, it looks like they're closing in on a deal to sign Leicester City's Ben Chilwell. The defender has been attracting the interest of Chelsea for quite some time now but if you believe the words of David Ornstein, the two clubs are now "close to agreement" on a transfer that is likely to cost the Londoners £50m.The deal is now 'almost done' after medical checks were completed on Chilwell's heel injury in London. He is still set for another three weeks out so until a move is finalised, Leicester will keep Chelsea up to date with proceedings.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

If Chelsea needed to strengthen anywhere this summer it was in defence, particularly at full-back.

That was all too evident in the FA Cup final when Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Nicolas Pepe ran the two wing-backs ragged on their way to winning the match.

Marcos Alonso is now past his best and his inconsistencies have been a real cause for concern.

Spending money to replace him, therefore, seems like a good idea.

Chilwell is now a seasoned international with England and at the age of 23, has plenty of room to grow.

Ben Chilwell

The strange thing is that the left-back's performances arguably dropped last season. He won fewer aerial duels per game in 2019/20 compared to 2018/19 and also committed more fouls per match.

However, considering his age, that shouldn't be a huge worry for Lampard and co.

£50m is a crazy sum of money but Chelsea have that kind of cash to flaunt at the moment.
