Crazy first-half in Cologne
Nevertheless, facing Inter proved to be one of their most difficult tasks and there was no shortage of entertainment for the neutrals with a thrilling first-half eventually finishing 2-2.
Romelu Lukaku had given Inter the advantage within 10 minutes, converting from a penalty that he won, before Luuk de Jong replicated his semi-final heroics with a quick-fire equaliser.
Sevilla then took the lead when De Jong doubled his personal tally with a stunning, top corner header, only for Diego Godin to level the scores with a headed strike of his own.
Lukaku OG ends Inter dreams
Sadly, the second-half didn't quite compare to the first in terms of entertainment and events in Cologne quickly turned into 'The Lukaku Show', albeit for wholly unfortunate reasons.
First, the Inter striker missed a brilliant one-on-one chance to fire Inter back into the lead and secondly, he proceeded to gift Sevilla their winner after putting through his own net late on.
The former Manchester United striker provided the final touch on Diego Carlos's overhead kick, which was surely going wide, to propagate the climatic goal in a 3-2 win for Sevilla.
Were Juventus trolling Inter?
So, it was more heartbreak for Inter in spite of making great strides this season and it will come as no surprise that many individuals were basking in the schadenfreude of their dramatic defeat.
And you'd be forgiven for thinking that none other than Juventus Football Club were one such entity, going out of their way to give a congratulatory nod to Sevilla on Twitter for their triumph in Cologne.
The tweet unintentionally went viral, not because fans were overwhelmed by the show of respect, but because so many were convinced that Juventus were trolling their historic rivals.

Another penned: "Payback time....Give that admin some pay raise and weekend bonuses."

A fourth uploaded: "Love the shamelessness."

If you're wondering why I'm so certain, it's because Juventus have something of a penchant for sending congratulatory tweets to clubs who have won major honours.
The Old Lady tweeted their respect to Liverpool just last year for lifting both the UEFA Super Cup and Champions League, while similarly acknowledging Lazio's victory in the Coppa Italia.
Christ, they even congratulated Conte for winning the Premier League with Chelsea and saluted Sevilla for winning the Europa League back in 2014 when, shock horror, they weren't playing Inter.
So, sure, Juve fans sharing the tweet can enjoy it as much as they like and frankly, they need a little bit of positivity, but the admin wasn't being the badass you thought they were being...
