It will be a while before the 27-year-old is able to put this behind him. The Times are reporting that England manager Gareth Southgate isn’t ready to include Maguire in his squad for next month’s Nations League fixtures.Some Man United fans are calling for him to be replaced as captain, too.However, aside from the questions about his place in the England squad and the Man United captaincy, the incident has exposed the difference in media coverage afforded to certain high-profile footballers.Maguire and Sterling coverage compared A tweet has gone viral comparing the coverage of Maguire's arrest to that given to Manchester City and England star Raheem Sterling.Sterling has regularly been the focus of negative attention. He's been labelled greedy for wanting a pay rise, called a 'footie idiot' and a story was even written after he took an £80 flight back from a holiday.
Compare that to the reaction to Maguire's arrest and you'll understand why Sterling accused the media of fuelling racism in 2018.
