Bayern Munich have won the Champions League with a 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in Lisbon tonight.Bayern entered the climax in Lisbon as heavy favourites, having scored seven goals over two legs against Chelsea, secured a historic 8-2 win over Barcelona and ended Lyon's streak of upsets with a 3-0 victory.PSG, on the other hand, found themselves in uncharted territory with Sunday's clash marking their first Champions League or European Cup final since their inception in 1970.

Nevertheless, there was no shortage of star-studded protagonists across the two teams with Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Robert Lewandowski's all staking claims as the world's three best player.

And for that reason, regardless of whether you were backing the German or French champions, the one prediction that most football funs and pundits shared was: goals... and lots of them.

That being said, it wasn't until almost 20 minutes that the first chance of the game presented itself with Manuel Neuer being called upon to make a critical double save for the Bavarians.

Early back and forth in Lisbon

Neymar came millimetres away from nutmegging the German shot-stopper after being played one-on-one, but both his original effort and attempted rebound were handily denied.

It seemed to wake up the favourites, too, with a quick response coming from - you guessed it - Lewandowski when his bobbled effort on the turn beat Keylor Navas, only to strike the upright.

First-half finishes goalless

Angel Di Maria missed a major opportunity of his own moments later, poorly firing over after bearing down on Neuer's goal, before Bayern were forced into an early change due to Jerome Boateng's injury.

To everybody's surprise, the first-half finished goalless, though it wasn't before Lewandowski forced a fine save from Keylor Navas and Mbappe seemed to have the goal at his mercy.

The World Cup-winning youngster played a fine one-two in the penalty area, only to send his resulting shot tamely into the grasp of Neuer when he really should have scored.

Coman opens the scoring vs PSG

However, as you would expect with these two giants, the opening strike eventually arrived in the second-half and it came courtesy of a stunning cross from Joshua Kimmich on the right-hand side.

Kingsley Coman, who had been brought into the side for Ivan Perisic, headed past Navas to put Bayern 1-0 up after a gorgeously chipped ball into the penalty area from his German teammate.

And after almost an hour without a goal, Bayern seemed to move into another gear entirely with Presnel Kimpembe and Thiago Silva needing to make crucial clearances to keep the gap at one goal.

Holding their nerve proved crucial for PSG as they slowly edged themselves back into the game and it wasn't for another fantastic save from Neuer, Marquinhos could have levelled the scores.

And VAR controversy was quick to follow with the technology inexplicably ignoring Kimmich's challenge on Mbappe that could easily have been awarded as a penalty.

Nevertheless, Bayern held on during the closing exchanges to secure a 1-0 victory in the Portuguese capital, becoming six-time European champions in the process.
