The last couple of weeks has been an absolute rollercoaster for Celtic but they have come through it with flying colours.

After a truly ridiculous incident involving Boli Bolingoli, the Hoops had two matches postponed.

The defender had gone abroad and then failed to quarantine upon his return. It was a moment of foolishness that did and still could cost his team dear.

However, they bounced back with a 1-0 win over Dundee last weekend as they put the pressure back on Rangers.

The Gers had missed their chance a week previous to open the gap at the top of the table and it would seem that we now have a title race on our hands in Scotland.

It's early days but things are already starting to look interesting in Glasgow.

Rangers have been rather busy in the transfer window but Celtic have done their own business, welcoming Albian Ajeti, Vasilis Barkas and Moi Elyounoussi through the door.

David Turnbull is reportedly on the verge of joining but it looks like Nick Hammond and Neil Lennon are hoping to conclude further business.

According to a report from Italian newspaper Il Secolo XIX (via Football Italia), Celtic are in the chase to sign former Southampton midfielder Gaston Ramirez.

The number 10 currently plays for Sampdoria in Serie A but is one of a number of players who could depart the Genoan-based side.

Bournemouth are also interested in signing Ramirez, while it's thought that Southampton could potentially re-sign him too.

The Uruguay international, who is capped 43 times, is currently valued at just £5.85m and has just a year left on his current deal in Italy.

Based on that information, Ramirez would be a cheap acquisition for Celtic so they shouldn't have to worry about funding a move.

A versatile player, someone who can feature on the wings and also through the middle, he was mightily impressive in Serie A last term.

He scored seven times and laid on two assists for his teammates. Coincidentally, that was his best season for goals since he was playing with Middlesbrough in the Championship.

Ramirez is now 29 and despite a few rather shoddy years in Italy, now looks to be finding his feet again.

He'd add a vital ingredient to this Celtic team too - the ability to run with the ball. Ryan Christie is streets ahead of anyone at Parkhead in that regard, completing 3.7 dribbles per game but only Odsonne Edouard besides him has over one dribble per match in the whole squad.

Ramirez, meanwhile, completes 1.8 successful take-ons and is also fouled on a regular basis. It's no surprise that he was hailed as "technically very good" by ex-Fulham midfielder Danny Murphy during his days in England.

The Uruguay international would be a shrewd piece of business.
