For the first time since 2017, Liverpool fans weren’t watching their own club compete in the Champions League final.

Instead, they would have tuned into Paris Saint-Germain vs Bayern Munich with a keen interest in one player in particular – Thiago.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with the Bayern midfielder for several weeks and reports suggest that a deal will be completed now that Bayern’s season has finished.

The Spaniard produced an impressive display during his 86 minutes on the pitch.

After the final whistle, he was seen in deep conversation with his manager, Hansi Flick, which involved an emotional embrace.

In Flick’s post-match press conference, a reporter asked if it meant Thiago had played his final match for Bayern.

The Champions League-winning boss decided to have a bit of fun and joked that Thiago had just told him he was staying at the club – a comment then stunned the journalists in the room.

He then broke out in laughter.

“No, he told me he is staying,” Flick replied before chuckling loudly.

“You pulled a brilliant face! No, I just thanked him for our time together, just like I did every other player.

“I don’t know and he doesn’t know yet either (which club he will join), because we all focused on this Champions League final. I think we will have to wait for what the following days will bring.”

Take a look:

So, will Thiago be signing for Liverpool in the coming days now then?

Well, journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed the latest to CBS Sports.

“He can have his last match for his team and then leave for Premier League football. Thiago will leave for sure this summer,” Romano said.

“Bayern Munich is now in talks with Liverpool, the player agreed personal terms. The player wants to play for Jurgen Klopp with Liverpool, now it’s time to start talks between Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

“They will talk about the fee. But there are good possibilities to see Thiago at Liverpool next season.”
