Luis Suarez is poised to leave Barcelona after Ronald Koeman informed the Uruguayan forward that he doesn’t feature in the club’s plan moving forwards.
Koeman, who replaced Quique Setien last week, spoke to Suarez over the phone on Monday.
This is according to Catalan radio station RAC1 (per Marca), who understand that Suarez has been told to find a new club.
The experienced striker has one year left to run on his deal, but Barça will terminate the contract in order to get him off the wage bill.
Ajax are the current favourites to sign Suarez, although other clubs are likely to be interested in securing his signature in time for the 2020-21 campaign.
Suarez, who joined Barcelona from Liverpool in 2014, will leave Camp Nou having scored an impressive 198 goals in 283 games.
Only Lionel Messi (634 goals) and Cesar (232) have scored more goals for the Catalan giants.
He won a total of 13 trophies with Barça, including four La Ligas, four Copas del Rey, the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA World Cup Cup.
Suarez also sealed the European Golden Shoe in 2015-16 after scoring 40 La Liga goals in 35 matches and was named Barcelona’s Player of the Season in the same campaign.
Sadly, though, the 33-year-old’s performance-levels have dipped over the past couple of seasons.
While he has still managed to score 46 goals since the beginning of the 2018-19 campaign, many fans believe the South American’s best days are now firmly behind him.
That said, it shouldn’t be forgotten what an extraordinary player Suarez has been for Barcelona over the past six years.
