Don't expect much at Tottenham this summer. It won't be for the lack of trying, but they're going to be tied down by tight financial restrictions.

They have to borrow £175m from the government earlier this summer and their first two summer arrivals are a sign of a team with few funds to spend.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was a bargain at £15m but Joe Hart arrived for absolutely nothing.

For those who were criticising Arsenal's signing of Willian, Spurs now had to defend their own free transfer. It's funny how football works.

That being said, both deals were rather shrewd from Daniel Levy, a man who hasn't particularly spent a great deal in north London.

He is famed for that transfer window where Spurs didn't sign a single player but at least supporters won't have to relive that again.

Efforts are still being made to sign impressive players. Gareth Bale has been touted with a return to north London while Milan Skriniar has been linked on a regular basis.

However, no transfer rumour has arguably been more exciting than one coming out of France.

According to Soccerlink, Spurs are interested in signing Leicester midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.

They claim that the Tottenham hierarchy has begun work to try and sign the impressive Nigeria international.

The Foxes don't intend to part company with Ndidi but Spurs have still asked for information regarding his availability.

The source says that the Leicester star is an 'expensive case', something that's backed up by his Transfermarkt value of £40.5m.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

This would be an exceptional piece of business.

To put things simply, Ndidi is a defensive colossus, he is the heartbeat of Leicester's midfield and would slot into any side in the Premier League seamlessly.

Last season, he made four tackles per match, a tally that put him second in the entire division for that particular stat. The only player ahead of him? That was also a Leicester man, Ricardo Pereira.

He is a beast when it comes to defending his box, making 2.5 interceptions per game while completing 85.1% of his passes.

There are few players more protective than Ndidi in the top-flight. He is calm in possession and wins the ball back at a staggering rate.

For a Spurs side that conceded on a regular basis under Jose Mourinho, this would be a player capable of pulling them through the tougher stages of matches.

The manager is also a known fan of the player. Back in 2016, he tried to convince the midfielder to sign for Manchester United but his efforts didn't pay off. Perhaps he might have better luck this time around.
