Messi, Lewandowski and Neymar: The Champions League Team of the Season has been named

Bayern Munich were deserving winners of the Champions League.

Hansi Flick’s side were dominant in the competition, becoming the first side to win every single game in a single campaign.

Bayern scored 43 goals in their 11 matches, which is remarkable when you consider the level of opposition.

And there were some phenomenal displays along the way. The 7-2 win at Tottenham Hotspur last October and the 8-2 mauling against Barcelona in the quarter-finals particularly stand out.

So it should come as no surprise to learn that five Bayern players make it into the statistical Champions League XI of the season.

WhoScored have revealed the team of the best-performing stars and eight of the 11 players featured in the final.

There’s also room for a surprise Manchester City player as well as a familiar face from Barcelona…

Here’s the team in full.

Striker: Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) – 9.03 rating

Nobody had a higher rating than Robert Lewandowski.

The Polish striker enjoyed the best season of his career, with 15 of his 55 goals in 2019/20 coming in the Champions League.

He also weighed in with five assists in a season that should have ended with Lewandowski claiming the Ballon d’Or award.

Striker: Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City) – 7.79 rating

Man City’s Champions League campaign was disappointing but Gabriel Jesus tried his hardest to end City’s years of waiting, scoring six times and providing three assists.
