A footballing education in Stuttgart is certainly nothing to be ashamed of. Just ask Joshua Kimmich and Serge Gnabry.

The two stars of German football spent periods of their career with the Bundesliga outfit when they were younger.

Remarkably, they were then winning the UEFA Champions League together for Bayern Munich last Sunday.

What does all this have to do with Leeds, I hear you ask? Well, they've been interested in one of Stuttgart's players this summer.

The Whites have predominantly been lining up moves for domestic players - take Ollie Watkins and Said Benrahma for example.

However, there are multiple players on the continent that have taken their fancy. If you believe the Leon Bailey rumours then Germany is clearly an area where Leeds are looking to strengthen from.

Perhaps that's where Victor Orta went when he flew out of the country two weeks ago?

At the time it was claimed that Leeds were interested in signing Argentine attacker Nico Gonzalez.

This rumour clearly isn't new but there have been some developments in that story this week.

Previously the forward has been touted at an asking price of £15m but it's now looking increasingly unlikely that a deal will happen.

Former Arsenal scout Sven Mislintat, who is now at Stuttgart, revealed: "We had a lot of rumours in the beginning. It was very serious with Leeds."

Now, that sounds like extremely positive news, especially after claims were made that Gonzalez had already been to Thorpe Arch and Elland Road.

However, he can't have been left too impressed with what he saw: "But at no point it was really convincing for him or for us," Mislintnat continued.

"I don't see [a departure] coming for now."

Nicolas Gonzalez

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Gonzalez might not be someone to get truly excited about but this has been a real transfer saga.

Early suggestions made it look as though the 22-year-old was on the verge of arriving in Yorkshire.

Though, that no longer looks likely. The player doesn't seem enthralled by Leeds' offer and neither are Stuttgart. This may seem like bad news for Orta, but at the end of the day, Gonzalez was going to be a risk.

He may have scored 15 goals last term but English football is a different beast, especially for a player who hasn't had too many years in Europe.

£15m would have been an absolute snip but there were reports a few weeks ago suggesting that Leeds thought they could sign Benrahma for a similar price.

He's a player who scored 17 times and assisted nine strikes in 2019/20. The choice should be obvious.
