It's been a topsy-turvy period for the Toffees who have failed to make an impression in the summer market so far.
We've seen Thomas Lemar and Leon Bailey touted with moves to Merseyside, but until now, it's been rather quiet at Goodison Park.

How about Fikako Tomori on loan? Both would be shrewd additions but they're hardly signings to get fans off their seats.
With Carlo Ancelotti at the helm, a man who has won the Champions League, you should be able to recruit some more impressive names than that.
And right on queue, it looks like they're on the verge of landing one of the most creative talents in world football.
According to various sources, Everton are in advanced talks to sign James Rodriguez. Yes, you read that correctly, James could be tearing it up in the Premier League next season.
This news comes from some pretty reliable outlets too.
The Telegraph suggests that the player is keen to be reunited with Ancelotti, a manager he played under at Real and Bayern Munich.
And other reports seem to think that the Everton boss is also keen.
Fabrizio Romano wrote two updates on the Merseysider's pursuit on Tuesday night. He first revealed that Ancelotti would love to sign him and that the club have been in contact with Madrid.
He then claimed that both player and manager had already been in contact with each other about a deal. Exciting times.

Wow, this would be an absolutely superb signing by Everton.
It might be a long time since James was starring at the 2014 World Cup, but this is exactly the type of acquisition the Toffees need if they're to fulfil Ancelotti's vision of achieving European football.
James is now 29 but his career speaks for itself. Having played for both Madrid and Bayern, he boasts a record of 125 assists and 105 goals in 388 appearances.
That is a ridiculous rate of creativity for a player who "oozes quality" according to Real club president Florentino Perez.
Just two of those assists came in 2019/20 but it's important to remember just how much creativity Everton lack from central areas.
Lucas Digne and Djibril Sidibe had the most assists in the squad last season, while Gylfi Sigurdsson only racked up three in the Premier League.
That tells you all you need to know about their creative woes. If they can get a deal for James over the line, it would be one of the best in their recent history.
