Finally, the 2019/20 season is done and dusted. It took its time, didn't it?

Anyway, the new season is fast approaching, and you know what that means, FIFA 21 is on its way!

With the game set to be released in early October, it is time to start thinking about which teams you want to start a Career Mode with and lead to glory. Well, let us help you pick the perfect side.

We've already told you which English teams you should manage next season, but now it's time to head overseas.

Here are eight foreign teams that could be just the right fit.

1. Barcelona

Fancy a challenge? You've got one.

The Catalan giants are a bit of a mess right now. In fact, they are capitulating. They have just been humiliated by Bayern Munich, Luis Suarez is seemingly deemed surplus to requirements, and Lionel Messi has now told the club that he wants to leave.

All does not appear rosy. That's what makes this a fascinating project. Things can't get much worse, right? Barcelona are undoubtedly an ageing squad who need some fresh blood to return to their glory days.

Let's not forget that there is also still plenty to work with. The team is full of world and European champions. They just need to bring through some younger, hungry players to complement those already there.

Some smart work in the transfer market could get the club firmly back on track.

2. Atalanta

This relatively small club from northern Italy have only grabbed the spotlight over the past season following their run to the Champions League quarter-finals. In truth, they have been a force to be reckoned with for the last four seasons, regularly making Europe and impressing Serie A fans on a weekly basis.

How have they done it on such a limited budget? They have been clever with their transfer dealings. Every season they lose a couple of key players as some of the bigger clubs swoop in and tempt their main assets away. This has meant that Atalanta have had to look to some of the smaller European leagues for hidden gems.

It has worked. Players have arrived from countries such as Ukraine, Belgium and the Netherlands and flourished straight away.

Your task would be to maintain their remarkable rise and even try to take the side to the next level. It is well worth a crack.

3. Inter Miami

When you've got David Beckham as your club president, you are bound to attract interest. 'Becks' has never been one to lack ambition, so this is a side that will be intriguing to build.

The club have already signed World Cup winner Blaise Matuidi. He sees that there is great potential at this newly-founded team based in Florida.

Who knows who else could be tempted over to the US. Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi are reportedly on the market. Stranger things have happened.

4. Schalke

This would be about improving an under-performing side. Schalke have won seven domestic championships, but none since 1958. They won the German Cup in 2011, and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in the same year. However, they have not been able to replicate that form in recent seasons.

Last season, they finished 12th and won only nine league games. The bottom three sides were the only teams to win fewer matches. That's pretty pitiful for a club of the stature of Schalke.

Surely you can do better? They do have talented players, and some shrewd business in the transfer market could get the team back into those European places where they ought to be.

5. Rennes

Rennes are a fairly small club based in Brittany. They have never won Ligue 1. Yet, last season, albeit in a campaign that was cut short by the coronavirus, they finished third.

It was a great achievement for a team who have historically been in the bottom half of the top-flight or even down in Ligue 2.

The club is known for its academy products, having produced Arsenal legend Sylvain Wiltord and more recently Ousmane Dembele. Bringing through more young talents would be an option with this side who won the Coupe de France in 2019 and are clearly on the rise.

Can you overtake PSG and become French champions? That would be a mighty challenge.

What you can certainly do is spend wisely and keep the side in the mix for a European place on a consistent basis.

6. Bodø/Glimt

Time to think outside the box. You may wonder who this Norwegian side are. Well, they are a team that are flying right now.

In their first 15 league games of the domestic season, they have gone unbeaten, scoring 53 goals in the process. They have never won the top-flight title, but are on track to make history this year.

Over the years, Rosenborg have made a minor impact in the Champions League. Could Bodø/Glimt do even better? Quite possibly.

7. PSV Eindhoven

Dutch football was brought to a premature end last season due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the title not awarded to any club. However, when it was halted, PSV were only fourth in the league. They should be doing much better than that.

The club have won 24 Eredivisie titles in their history, but only three since 2008, as they have had to watch their arch-rivals Ajax lift trophy after trophy. They also haven't made much of a splash in Europe recently either.

It's time for this side to get back to the top of the table. With some intelligent work in the transfer window, you could be the one to put them back on their perch.

8. AC Milan

Ralf Rangnick was all set to come to Milan this summer and start a revolution to lead the club back to the days when they dominated Italian football. Then Milan pulled the plug at the last minute and decided to stick with current manager Stefano Pioli.

It was an understandable decision given Pioli's impressive record in the second half of the campaign, but it would still be interesting to see if you could start a Career Mode with Milan and lead them back to the summit of Serie A.

The Rossoneri have not won a league title since 2011, and their last Champions League triumph was in 2007.

You would have plenty of money to spend to build a team that showed in the first half of 2020 that they already possess an abundance of talent.
