Rangers FC and Steven Gerrard have life pretty good right now.

They're six points clear at the top of the SPFL and Kemar Roofe has already hit the ground running at Ibrox.

He bagged last weekend as the Gers saw off the challenge of Kilmarnock.

The pressure is still on their rivals Celtic. They may have two games in hand but Rangers are the ones with the points on the board.

They missed the chance to extend their lead against Livingston but there are plenty of reasons to be positive for Gerrard and his squad.

That's despite the impending departure of Alfredo Morelos. Lille may have acquired Jonathan David but they're still trying to do a deal for the Colombian.

The thought of him leaving Glasgow behind is slowly starting to become a reality.

Alfredo Morelos

Morelos' head hasn't been altogether there this season and Rangers have thankfully moved quickly to sign some replacements.

Roofe arrived from Anderlecht while Cedric Itten was also signed.

However, if Morelos does finally leave, the Gers will sign another striker. That's according to Bill Young from Talking Football.

He took to Twitter this week to suggest that Rangers were in talks to sign Dundee United forward Lawrence Shankland.

The Light Blues have already been touted with a move for the striker but now it appears as though the deal is materialising.

It must be stated, however, that they will only make a move if Morelos exits.

Shankland is valued at just £585,000 according to Transfermarkt

Lawrence Shankland

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Rangers' forward line is absolutely stacked right now. With Itten, Roofe and Morelos, they have a forward line capable of matching Albian Ajeti, Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths across Glasgow.

Consequently, signing another promising striker if Morelos leaves is a mighty fine idea.

If you look at his absurd goal record, it tells you all you need to know about why the Gers want to bring him to Ibrox.

Last season he bagged 28 times in just 33 outings. Across the past three terms altogether, he has racked up a truly incredible 89 strikes.

Lawrence Shankland playing for Scotland

Shankland is a player that if you present him with an opportunity, more often than not he'll beat the goalkeeper.

It doesn't matter what side he's played for in Scotland, whether it be Dundee, Ayr United or St Mirren, he's always been able to score goals.

The only negative point to be discussed about the 25-year-old is his record in the top division. He has scored goals throughout the lower divisions but in 18 SPFL matches, has failed to score.

Perhaps as he enters his prime he can finally break that duck? Only time will tell.
