It’s been a very underwhelming summer for Manchester United so far.The Red Devils haven’t added to their squad - unless you’re counting the return of Dean Henderson from his loan spell at Sheffield United - with a highly-anticipated move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho failing to materialise.United finished 33 points behind Liverpool and 15 behind Manchester City last season, but they haven’t done anything to bridge the gap thus far.And they’ve even had to contend with Chelsea going all out, with Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner moving to Stamford Bridge. It’s enough to cause minor panic among some United supporters but their wait to see a new arrival might not last much longer.According to Catalan journalist Oriol Domenech, Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek is about to sign for United.

Van de Beek has been linked with Real Madrid and Barcelona this summer.

But Domenech claims that Ronald Koeman’s attentions have since turned to Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum.

Simon Peach, a Man United reporter and the chief football writer for Press Association, wrote about the club’s interest in Van de Beek, although this update wasn’t as conclusive as Domenech’s.

“#MUFC monitoring Donny van de Beek situation,” Peach wrote on Twitter.

Unlike some speculation this summer, this isn’t complete cloud cuckoo land.

The most reliable source, though, is Fabrizio Romano. He claims United have been in contact with Van de Beek's agent for weeks and have kept a close eye on the 23-year-old for months.

Van de Beek 'would love' to move to the Premier League, Romano says.

Van de Beek is valued at £39.6 million, according to Transfermarkt. He was left out of Ajax's squad for their friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, which hints at his departure from the Eredivisie outfit.
