Tottenham confirmed the signing of Wolves defender Matt Doherty on Sunday morning. The Republic of Ireland right-back, 28, has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the north London outfit.Spurs are understood to have spent £15 million on the defender, who scored four goals and registered three assists in the Premier League last term."I'm very proud to be joining such a big club," Doherty said. "[They have] the best stadium in the world and possibly the best training ground in the world."Once I knew there was interest, it was a no-brainer for me."My time at Wolves was fantastic - I haven't got a bad word to say about the whole club at all. I just feel like coming here is going to take my game and my career to the next level."p1egvie7ho1be71itdg3s4tq2139.jpgDoherty becomes Tottenham’s third summer signing following the arrivals of midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and goalkeeper Joe Hart. This is a move that Doherty himself would never have envisaged happening several years ago.Not on account of his ability, but because he was a massive Arsenal fan.How do we know he was a massive fan? Because of his old tweets.

Ahead of his move to Spurs, Arsenal fans uncovered evidence of his undying love for the Gunners.

“I love arsenal forever and ever and ever” and “Yes I’m a HUGE Arsenal fan!” were just some of the many tweets that Doherty posted between 2012-2013.

Rather than ignore this ever happened, Tottenham used it as part of their announcement video - and it’s brilliant.

Doherty, looking rather awkwardly towards the camera, scrolls through his old pro-Arsenal tweets before deleting them one by one.

He ends the video by tapping the Spurs badge on his chest while smiling proudly.

As announcement videos go, this one is right up there.

Fair play to Doherty for being such a great sport.

That said, he can expect more than his fair share of stick from Arsenal fans this season when the first north London derby of the season comes around.
