Cricket star Kevin O'Brien smashes own car windscreen after hitting six

There are few better feelings in sport than clubbing a cricket ball for six.

Unless, of course, you damage your car in the process.

Even then, this situation is rare, and would typically occur at a club game, where cars are packed around the boundary on a small village green.

So when Irish international Kevin O’Brien shattered his own windscreen during a T20 game in Dublin, he experienced that mixture of elation and horror that is usually reserved for part-timers on a Saturday afternoon.

O’Brien is most famous for hitting the fastest century in World Cup history when Ireland stunned England back in 2011, and he is still doing damage with the bat nearly a decade later.

Playing for Leinster Lightning, the allrounder led his side to victory over the North-West Warriors earlier this week with a rapid 82 that included eight sixes.

One of those maximums, though, landed on his Toyota, for whom O’Brien is a brand ambassador.

The manufacturer appeared more than happy with the publicity, tweeting: “Our SMASHING Brand Ambassador was straight in to us here @ToyotaLongMile after his Man of the Match performance today for Leinster.

“One of his big hits managed to do this to his own back window!!

“Don’t worry we’ll get it fixed up as good as new!!”

The (presumably) free repair capped off a fine afternoon for O’Brien, as the Lightning won comfortably by 24 runs.

The moral of the story? Avoiding smashing windows, except if you are damaging your sponsors’ property, in which case they will be delighted with your destruction.
