The transfer window has been very kind to Tottenham so far.

They have been one of the most active clubs in the Premier League, bringing in no fewer than three players.

Spurs may not have had the financial firepower to make some of the signings Chelsea have wrapped up, but they've still done business that should strengthen the overall look of their squad.

They brought Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart to the club before they concluded a deal to bring Matt Doherty to the club on Sunday morning.

A boyhood Arsenal fan, it might take the Irishman a little while to fit in on the white side of north London.

However, his footballing ability should ultimately do the talking. This is a full-back who contributed to ten goals last term, after all.

It's not quite the numbers that someone like Trent Alexander-Arnold provides but it's still a mightily impressive tally.

Mourinho

Tottenham aren't done in the market quite yet though and it seems as though Daniel Levy has ideas of strengthening the central midfielder area.

With Tanguy Ndombele looking likely to leave, that's hardly surprising.

Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek has been linked, as has Barcelona's Ivan Rakitic.

Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness) reported Spurs' initial interest last weekend but now there has been an update on the Croatian's future.

According to a fresh report from the same outlet (via Sport Witness), Rakitic will cost any willing suitor a fee of €10m (£8.9m).

Sevilla are interested in re-signing the Croat but if a move to the Spanish side fails to materialise, then the 32-year-old 'wouldn't mind joining' Tottenham.

Ivan Rakitic

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

A Croatian midfielder at the base of Tottenham's side has a very nice ring to it. That's because of a certain former Spurs man, Luka Modric.

The duo have established a sensational partnership for the Croatia national team but they now play for two rivals - Real Madrid and Barca.

How Modric fared in north London is no great sign of what Rakitic would be able to achieve but they are certainly cut from similar cloths.

Rakitic is capped a mighty 106 times by his country and has played 310 times for Barcelona.

You don't rack up those sorts of numbers without having a superb career.

Although he might now be out of favour in a dejected Barca team, he still has the respect of his peers.

Rakitic and Messi

Former midfielder Xavi waxed lyrical about the Croatian during the 2018 World Cup. "Rakitić is one of the best signings Barca have made in their history. Every day he gets better, he knows how to adapt to what the team needs, and in every moment he lives a footballing maturity that is extraordinary."

Xavi followed that up with similar comparisons to Modric: “He would have been good for Barça also, they are authentic monsters with the ball," he added

Spurs' midfield is devoid of much control and creativity since Christian Eriksen departed so adding someone of Rakitic's abilities would be no bad thing.

He completed an eye-catching 89.9% of his passes last season so would certainly fit the bill.
