Manchester United have smashed their home and away kits for the 2020/21 season.Indeed, the red home shirt, which features distinct gold and black lines across the front, came fifth in GiveMeSport’s ranked list of every Premier League team’s home shirt for the new campaign. The black away strip is also a very smart design. So Adidas are 2/2 when it comes to the home and away tops. Could they make it 3/3 with the release of the third jersey? It would appear not.Images of Man United’s third shirt have leaked online and they haven’t gone down well with the club’s supporters. The shirt features white and black diagonal stripes in what is a very bold look.In the photos, ‘OT 110’ is written on the inside collar to mark the 110th anniversary of Old Trafford.FootyHeadlines have the images. Check them out here.
The reaction on social media isn’t very positive and it’s not hard to understand why.
“I hope Van de Beek does not see this kit before signing the contract because he could regret it,” joked one fan.
Perhaps it will look better on the players, whose athletic figures often do increase the aesthetic appeal of a kit.
But it’s hard to imagine Man United selling a large quantity of the shirt.
Better stick to that neat home kit, we reckon.
“For this season, we researched the values and iconography that connect athlete and fan, and looked to fuse these with modernity and innovation, to create something that connects the people and stands for unity,” Inigo Turner, Design Director at Adidas, said about the new red top, per the club's website.
“We pretty quickly landed on the crest as it is the representation of the heart and passion of the club, and it is symbolic and iconic across the world.
“It is significant as the first component added to each design, and one that makes up the threads of the shirt design for the 2020/21 season.”
