This has been a landmark summer for Leeds United.

They achieved promotion to the Premier League by winning the Championship and in the process secured an added £200m

On top of that, their academy has achieved category one status, cementing Thorpe Arch as one of the best facilities for young players in the country.

Life couldn't get much better for Leeds at the moment.

They have broken their transfer record to sign Rodrigo from Valencia, signed an ever-improving German international in Robin Koch and even had the audacity to launch an enquiry for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Reports from Italy last week suggested that Andrea Radrizzani and his intermediary Lorenzo Tonetti had been busy trying to gauge who might be available at Lazio.

However, it appears as though Leeds have been doing that right throughout Italy.

Radrizzani and Orta

Reports from a plethora of sources on Sunday afternoon suggested that they were in the market to sign a player from Udinese.

Mike McGrath of The Telegraph reported that Leeds were interested in signing 17-cap midfielder Rodrigo de Paul.

That news was reaffirmed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter who suggested that a price tag of €30m-35m (£26.7m-£31.2m) would be enough to sign him.

Talks are now supposedly ongoing between the two clubs.

If Leeds manage to wrap up a deal in the range of the higher price category, then it would break the record-breaking £30m the Whites spent on Rodrigo last week.

Leeds really are making waves in the window this summer.

Rodrigo de Paul

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

This would be another sensational piece of business from Victor Orta and co.

De Paul might not be widely known to audiences in England but he's an incredibly eye-catching player, predominantly because of his qualities in the final third.

For Udinese last term, the Argentine scored seven goals in Serie A. De Paul also registered seven assists in all competitions.

The 26-year-old can play operate as a deep-lying playmaker but also has the abilities to feature further forward in an attacking midfield role.

That leads us to believe that he could be the long-term successor to Pablo Hernandez in Leeds' midfield.

Rodrigo de Paul

Hernandez may be a three-time Player of the Year at Elland Road, but he is now 35 and it's incredibly unlikely that he'll be up to the task of playing all 38 games in the Premier League.

It would be wise of Leeds to bring in a younger alternative, particularly with Mateusz Klich now in his 30s as well.

De Paul racked up as many as 2.3 key passes last term, a tally that coincidentally, puts him dead level with Hernandez.

In terms of shots per game, though, it's De Paul who comes out on top. He has everything he needs to dethrone Leeds' most creative player in the future.
