Tottenham Hotspur certainly mean business this summer.

After a season which was disappointing by their usually high standards, Spurs scraped into the Europa League this term after finishing in sixth place in the Premier League.

It was an under par campaign, and Daniel Levy knows it.

With Jose Mourinho preparing for his first full season in charge of the north London side, he has one objective and that's to qualify for the Champions League.

Of course if they're to do that then they'll need to strengthen.

Tottenham have already signed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty this summer, but there's another name who keeps cropping up in reports.

That's the name of Sergio Reguilon.

The Sevilla full-back has been linked with a move to North London after an impressive campaign in Spain.

One man who has been following the story closely is Football London's Alasdair Gold who insists that while signing a left-back is not a priority, Spurs may make an exception for a player that they really like.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Gold said: “A player I get asked about is Sergio Reguilon.

“He’s been at Sevilla on loan for the last year and had a really good season with them reaching the Europa League final and winning it. They finished fourth in La Liga as well.

“He’s a very talented guy.

“He’s one that Spurs are very interested in – they’re big admirers of him. “But the thing is that Spurs aren’t really looking for a left-back this summer.

“Mourinho’s feeling is that they’ve got Ben Davies, Ryan Sessegnon, Dennis Cirkin – who they’ve been so impressed with, and Japhet Tanganga who can all play at left-back.

“So they’re not really looking for one.

“However, if Reguilon is available for a bargain price then it might be one where they say ‘we like this guy’, and if the price is really do-able then they might just do it to secure him for the future.

“It’s unlikely that they’ll get anything like the Matt Doherty type of price, but keep an eye on it.

“It’s not a priority position and I do wonder if they’ll spend their money elsewhere.

“But if there’s a bargain price I wouldn’t be surprised to see Spurs make a move – as I say, they really like him and think he could be a top left-back for the future.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

It certainly seems that this is one to watch.

Sergio Reguilon is a player who will be highly sought-after following his exploits for Sevilla in La Liga and the Europa League.

The left-back was a key part of the Spanish side's success, and that's why Tottenham should be very interested.

Gold does make a valid point about the plethora of players available in his position, though, and that's why a move seems unlikely.

Unless they're going to move some players on, I just can't see this happening - particularly this summer.

However it may well be a move that they revisit over the coming year.
