On Sunday, Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton won the Belgian Grand Prix, closing to within two wins of Michael Schumacher's all-time Formula One record.The rather comfortable victory also marked the Brit's fourth victory at the Belgian Grand Prix and his 89th career win.Hamilton dominated the race from start to finish, as he led all 44 laps and extended his title lead to 47 points.The victory at Spa was also Hamilton's fifth of seven races this year. It's safe to say the defending champion is doing well, and, at this rate, shows no signs of stopping.
Remarkable Stat
Hamilton’s victory was his 40th consecutive points finish, a remarkable run that stretches all the way back to the 2018 Austrian Grand Prix. Out of those 40 finishes, he has won 23 of them and has been in the top two 31 times. That is seriously impressive and consistent, to say the least.
You can say all you want about Mercedes being the best car and Hamilton being in the best vehicle, but to be consistently that good is nothing to be scoffed at.
With this win, Hamilton ended Mercedes’ three-year wait for a win at the famous Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps track in Stavelot, Belgium. Mercedes also had another racer in the top two as Valtteri Bottas finished second, ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen.
After the win, Hamilton dedicated his victory to the late Chadwick Boseman, who passed away from colon cancer over the weekend.
Hamilton posed in the Wakanda salute while on the podium, and he also spoke of the actor and how he made “everyone feel like a superhero.”
"We are continuing to push the envelope, and it feels great to finish on a high this weekend, particularly with Chad (Chadwick Boseman) dying because he made everyone feel like a superhero," said Hamilton.
The defending champion also took to social media with the image, stating that Boseman’s legacy will live on.
Hamilton continues to add to his accolades, as he holds various Formula One records, such as most points in a season and most podium finishes.
It is almost inevitable that he reaches Schumacher’s all-time record and surpasses 91 wins.
Hamilton’s Grand Prix win is another notch under his belt, and one of many more wins to come.
