Leeds United's plan a few weeks ago looked as though it revolved around domestic players.

The likes of Ollie Watkins, Said Benrahma and Ebere Eze had all been linked with moves to Elland Road.

However, that policy has shifted strongly to foreign signings.

You only need to look at Leeds' activity in the last week to understand that.

Firstly, Victor Orta managed to bring Rodrigo to the club from Valencia, and then the Whites confirmed the addition of Germany international Robin Koch from Freiburg.

Orta looks set to continue his search for foreign talent too. The club are in talks to sign attacking midfielder Rodrigo de Paul from Udinese but it appears as though Leeds' Director of Football has his fingers in quite a few pies.

That's because the Yorkshire side are trying to do a deal for another defender.

Rodrigo in action for Spain

Axel Tuanzebe is a name that's been mentioned, but it's a defender in Croatia that they look closer to landing.

According to reputable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Leeds have now entered discussions to sign teenager defender Josko Gvardiol from Dinamo Zagreb.

He took to Twitter to say the following on Sunday evening:

"Leeds are in talks with Dinamo Zagreb to sign Josko Gvardiol. Price tag around €20m for the Croatian centre back. Another important target after signing Koch and Rodrigo - still working with Udinese to find an agreement for Rodrigo de Paul."

To put that fee into English money, Gvardiol could cost Leeds somewhere in the region of £17.9m - a bargain in today's market.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Gvardiol is far from known to English audiences but he's one of the best young centre-backs in world football at the moment.

Just 18 years of age, the left-footed teenager has a growing reputation and has already been tipped for stardom by multiple people.

Dinamo Sporting Director Zoran Mamic said this summer: "Josko has developed into a great player for whom only the sky is the limit."

Meanwhile, the defender has also been named in The Guardian's Next Generation list. In a review of the player written by Croatian journalist Aleksandar Holiga, it read: "Gvardiol idolises Virgil van Dijk (“the best in the position”) and is an advanced defender, strong both physically and technically; although coaches mark his dedication and work ethic as his best features."

Leeds win the Championship

If his work rate is as strong as some suggest, then he should have no trouble fitting into the robust demands of Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds' training sessions are some of the hardest around with Bielsa's famed 'murderball' proving a difficult obstacle for anyone to overcome.

Gvardiol may struggle initially, like many of the club's new signings, but his dedication should put him in a strong position for success.

At just 18 years of age, it would be a highly promising signing from Leeds.
