Given the ongoing takeover drama, Mike Ashley will be reluctant to spend more than he needs to on a new player, and that's why an exchange for Matt Ritchie could be shrewd.
Of course this depends on what Bournemouth's motivations are.
If they're looking to raise funds then perhaps a move to Aston Villa could be preferred, with Dean Smith's side seemingly open to a cash-only deal for the striker.
But given the Cherries' affinity for Matt Ritchie, the proposal from Newcastle could be very appealing indeed as they look to build a promotion-winning side.
