Lionel Messi wants to leave Barcelona.

The Argentine superstar - regarded by many as the greatest player of all time - handed in his transfer request last week.

Messi believes he's entitled to terminate his deal and leave for free by activating a special clause in his contract, but the club argue otherwise.

As it stands, Barca are demanding his €700m buyout must be met.

It's almost impossible to believe any club would actually pay that and with neither side willing to compromise, it looks like this one will be settled in court.

But one football fan isn't prepared to wait that long.

Oh no, he wants Messi to sign for his favourite team now.

Messi could be on the move

So how has he tried to make that happen? By creating a crowdfunder to raise the money needed to sign the forward, of course.

VfB Stuttgart fan Tim Artmann has set up a GoFundMe page attempting to pull together the €900,000,000 required to bring Messi to Germany.

So far he's raised €2,092.

The crowdfunder is quite a way off

Quite a way to go then, Tim. But, his effort certainly won't be wasted if the Argentine moves elsewhere.

The page's description confirms that all the money raised will be donated to Viva con Agua, a St Pauli based charity which aims to provide clean drinking water and 'basic sanitation' across the world.

"We VfB fans are collecting money to pay for Lionel Messi's transfer," Tim writes.

Messi could be on his way to the Bundesliga

"In the event that the planned amount is not reached on time or Lionel Messi joins another club, 100% of the money raised will be donated to Viva con Agua."

Top work, Tim.
