Fabrizio Romano is a name that you’ve probably heard of in recent weeks.Romano is a football insider, providing scoops on the biggest football transfer rumours around Europe. He’s based in Italy but the journalist covers news from the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga and Ligue 1, as well as Serie A.And with more than 1.5 million followers on Twitter, he’s pretty big business. In a world where rumours are coming thick and fast, with many people claiming to be ‘in the know’, the world of transfer rumours has become diluted somewhat. It’s arguably more difficult for a reporter to be taken seriously, but Romano certainly sits in Tier 1 when it comes to trustworthy news sources.

And it’s not hard to understand why when you see the work that he puts in.

Last year, Bleacher Report produced a video where they followed Romano around for a day during the 2019 summer window.

The final product was fascinating, giving a glimpse into what it’s really like to be an insider.

“My life is to find news and to be sure that news is absolutely confirmed,” Romano says.

“I do, I think, 50 calls in a day. I go to the hotels because here in Italy we have like managers, like sport directors, like agents, always in the hotels in the centre of Milan.

“I always try to find something important in these hotels or the headquarters of the clubs and then to check this news with clubs or with other sources to be sure it will be the best possible.”

In the video, Romano tracks the latest information on Chris Smalling’s loan move from Manchester United to Roma. It’s remarkable to watch as he hears the moves is in advanced talks, getting confident to the point where he’s ready to tweet the news.

“When we talk about Manchester United, I know people get crazy,” he says.
