Tottenham Hotspur are one side with a big point to prove this season.

Last term was a write-off for the North London side, who struggled to compete for long stretches of the season.

Despite a late push, the best that Spurs could do was finish in the top six - a standing which simply isn't good enough for a club of that size.

Jose Mourinho was brought in to the club to win silverware and ensure that the club are playing in the Champions League each year.

For him, this season is massive.

With his reputation on the line, Mourinho needs his squad to step up.

That means bringing in players who will improve the team and add depth to ensure that the club can compete for all trophies on offer.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty have already been added to the team, however it seems that a striker is next on the list of signings to chalk off.

Spurs need competition for Harry Kane, and have been linked with several players in the Premier League.

Callum Wilson is the latest to be discussed in detail, however according to Alasdair Gold of Football London, it's his teammate Josh King who could turn out to be an ideal target as the window progresses.

Writing for Football London, Gold said: "There have been reports linking the club with Wilson's team-mate on the south coast, Josh King.

"Also 28, the Norway international, who qualifies as homegrown after joining Manchester United as a 16-year-old, is a player Spurs have looked at in the past, but is less of an out and out striker and more of a support forward or wide man.

"While football.london understands that the north London club do not have King as a potential target this summer and have not made contact with his representatives, his contract situation and homegrown status mark him out as someone to keep an eye on as the window unfolds."

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Valued at £14.4m by Transfermarkt, Josh King would be a great signing, in my opinion.

A good option in attack, the Bournemouth man also brings versatility with his ability to play off the flanks.

That would make him a real asset to Jose Mourinho as he looks to increase his options in the attacking third.

A move for King is unlikely to come cheap, and that's potentially where an issue could come in.

But as the window unfolds it may be the case that Tottenham get more and more desperate and so they could be tempted to splash out.

You know what you're getting with Josh King, and for me that makes this move very appealing.
